Phil Sproson and (then) Lord Mayor Bill Austin unveil the Sproson Park name plate

Sproson Park

Wednesday 3rd April 2002 was a red letter day for the Sproson Fund as the Stoke-on-Trent city council recognised its efforts to honour the Sproson family by officially renaming Bycars Park as Sproson Park.

The renaming ceremony was attended by City officials, supporters and Port Vale officials, who saw the new name plate, situated in the area between the Vale training pitches and Dimensions leisure centre, unveiled by Phil Sproson and then Lord Mayor Bill Austin. Phil said: "It is a fantastic tribute to my family and I am especially pleased this tribute was driven by supporters. It shows there are a lot of people who appreciate what we have done"
