What We Do

The Sproson fund was set up with the aim of honouring the achievements of its longest serving player, Roy Sproson, whose incredible total of 837 games over three decades is still the third highest total achieved by a one-club player, and is unlikely to be bettered during these days of the high paid football mercenary. Along with older brother Jess and nephew Phil, the Sproson name is etched into Port Vale's history.

Fund raising for a permanent tribute, in the form of a 9 foot tall statue depicting of Roy in action, has been going on for some time now, with inevitable ups and downs. However, just as the football season 2006/7 enters its last few weeks, there is a real sense of optimism that this is the year we finally finish off this mammoth undertaking as fundraising goes into overdrive and a new funding bid is drawn up.

While all this is going on, take a look through the following pages to remind yourselves of what we have been up to in the last few years, including the making of a legend - the pictoral record of phase one of the staue project.
